Have you ever tried Japanese Cuisine or have you refrained from it thinking it will not suit your taste buds? Let me share with you my wonderful experience at Oishii Sushi Restaurant which serves authentic Japanese cuisine.

Elegant and refined, the Japanese cuisine is said to be one of the greatest cuisines in the world, and I won't disagree with that! Traditional Japanese food is undoubtedly one of the healthiest and most delicious in the world.

Rice is considered to be the main diet of the Japanese people. A steaming hot bowl of rice is included in most Japanese bowls and even the side dishes are served with rice! From rice cakes, to regular bowls of rice, the Japanese simply love their rice! Apart from rice, most meals end with a round of green tea - exotic to the core! Traditional Japanese ingredients used are soy sauce, wasabi (Wasabi is a green spicy paste made by some vegetables), ginger, mushrooms, beans, noodles and rice vinegar. In terms of unique presentation and taste, there is no other cuisine that can match the Japanese cuisine. All dishes are very colourful.

Oishii Sushi is a Japanese restaurant located in Shaab Al Bahry in front of the British Institute. In Japanese, the word Oishii means nice, tasty, delicious or something that tastes good. This Take-Away focussed restaurant is well known for its tasty cuisine. This restaurant is a Kuwaiti’s Family Business Venture with a firm motive of introducing this Japanese Cuisine among the food connoisseurs in Kuwait.

When we think of Japanese Cuisine first thing that comes in our mind is Sushi. Sushi is a food made of rice combined with various toppings or fillings, which are most commonly seafood. The word ‘sushi’ actually refers to the rice, not what’s on it. Sushi toppings may be raw, cooked, or marinated.

In Oishii Sushi Restaurant, everything is not Sushi. They have a lot of variety dishes which I am sure that the Indian expats likes! They display beautiful pictures of the dishes in their menu card, which makes a newbie to Japanese food to order the right one. They prepare fresh food right from their Open Kitchen in front of us and serve us. Everything is healthy and fresh at Oishii Sushi.

We ordered Edamame Salad – Rocket leaves, mix lettuce, avocado, crab sticks, spring onion, sesame seeds and Edamame. Edamame looks like pea pods but they are actually soybean pods. It’s a healthy salad and was sweet and delicious. Oishii Sushi Restaurant is famous for their unique Sushi Burger - made of beef burgers, Shitaki mushrooms, rocket leaves, sweet potatoes all in grilled sushi rice…. bun-like!! And with a side of sweet potato chips. We learned that this was not available in Kuwait until they included it in the menu. Tortilla a combination of Japanese and Mexican cuisine looks like a mini pizza. It contains crab, avocado, tortilla , jalapeno and mozzarella. It was crunchy and yummy. Kani Maki – Shiitake, Mushroom, cream cheese, avocado and cucumber, Oishii Maki – Crab, Shrimp tempura, cucumber, avocado, spring onion and Manhattan Maki – Salmon, shrimp, crabsticks, avocado, spring onion. We came to know that Maki is different from Sushi. Maki is rolled into a tube and then cut into circles.

Each dish of Maki contains green stuff called wasabi, ginger with vinegar and soy sauce.

Chopsticks are used to eat most kinds of Japanese foods, with some exceptions. It’s the traditional cutlery of Japan. We were given trainee chopsticks which are tied with rubber bands. The staffs at Oishii Sushi are very cordial and helpful for you to try the best out of Japanese food.

How you eat this Maki? Mix some wasabi into your soy sauce if you want spice. Take the ginger slices and place it on the Maki and pick up a piece with your chopsticks. Dip it into the soy sauce; Pop it in your mouth, yummm! A total different taste and experience.

It was really a great experience having Japanese food with Chopsticks.

If you are looking forward for a news experience, Japanese food will not come as a disappointment to you. For all of you, who have not yet explored and discovered the pleasures of the traditional Japanese food, Can order from Oishii Sushi Restaurant.
