Shaastrotsav – Enlightens children’s mind scientifically for the 4th consecutive year.

Shaastrotsav- The festival of Science was organized by Kuwait chapter of NSS College of Engineering (Palakkad) Alumni Association. It was conducted on 27th April, 2012 at Salmiya Indian Model School. It was a wonderful day which started at 10am with the inaugural function and ended at 8 PM. The whole place was highlighted with banners arousing scientific thinking with pictures of scientists being displayed all around. There were many school children dressed in their respective school uniforms displaying their projects and experiments, explaining its principles patiently and confidently to the visitors. The science exhibition for students was held in three categories- Sub-Junior, Junior and seniors. There was an exhibition contest in the open category also for the first time this year, which gave the students an additional chance to exhibit their creative skills and was well appreciated by the visitors.

Rubik cube solving contest was another highlight for this year’s Shaastrotsav 2012.It is note worthy that this was the first ever Rubik's Cube competition for School children in Kuwait and the children gave a marvellous performance by solving the Rubik cube in a remarkable short span of 49 seconds and a few milliseconds.

This was followed by a computer animation contest which started at 1.45pm in which many talented students displayed their computer skills by presenting their beautifully animated clips explaining different aspects of science and technology like the side effects of the use of mobile phones , laws of reflection, tsunami etc. An interesting interactive session on 'Human Problems - Green Nanotechnology Solutions was conducted by Dr. Shamim Ahmad (former Director CSIR, New Delhi) who is an expert in NanoTechnology . It was a very informative session.

The prime highlight of this edition of Shaastrotsav was a “Cap Q Science & Technology Quiz” which was conducted for the first time and attracted a huge crowd. The Quiz master was Mr. Ashwan Lewis of Karnataka Quiz Association. The preliminary round was conducted in the morning in which 24 schools took part and 6 schools qualified for the finals. The final was conducted in the evening in front of a huge audience.

In the CapQ quiz the first place was bagged by FAIPS, followed by GIS and United Indian School bagged the third prize respectively.
Shaastrotsav gave away cash awards to winning teams of the inter school science exhibition .The results were as follows.

2nd - ICSK (SENIOR)
3rd - Carmel School

Senior Category

1st - ICSK (SENIOR)

It was a hectic day but a memorable day as every participant was appreciated and rewarded a plaque and a certificate of appreciation. To appreciate the efforts of the hardworking teachers two teachers were chosen by a lucky draw and were presented a Kuwait-Mumbai return ticket.
