Monday, July 14, 2014

THANIMA, the secular socio-cultural Group has arranged an ‘Íftar’ named SouhrudaThanima, on Saturday 12 July 2014 at Hi-Dine auditorium, Abbassiya. The fast breaking get-together was attended by community leaders, representatives from different religious faiths, social and cultural organizations, audio-visual media and well wishers.

The meeting was presided over by Sabu M. Peter, the General Convener. Muhammed Areepra, Fr. Prakash Kanjirathinkal and Bibeesh Thikkodi delivered messages highlighting the dangers of religious fanaticism that is fast spreading in various parts of the world and reminded the need to be united for a harmonious and peaceful co-existence. They further stressed that unless visionaries come forward and lead the people, human race will be wiped out from the earth very shortly, due to terrorism, war as well as unwise exploitation of the nature. Human values are forsaken and society is after luxury and pleasure, to which media is playing an important role. All religions propagate harmony, but vicious minds use religion as a tool to practice religious fanaticism leading to terrorism that often shakes the roots of a good society. Fasting is a mechanism for purification, self-restraint as well as a reminder to wake up and understand one’s responsibility as a human being. Basheer Batha, Dr. Narayanan Nampoori, Chacko Georgekutty, Thomas Kadavil, Suresh Mathur, Riyas Ayanam, Shaiju Pallipuram, Shaji Varghese, Johney Kunnil also spoke on the occasion.

Jacob Varghese briefed about the upcoming ‘Onathanima 2014’ in which National Tug-O-War competition will be held. A raffle coupon was released in the function by Hamza Payyannoor, and was received by Pratapan Nair.
