United Goans Center kicks off the 39th Football Edition at Bayan Grounds

The first round of the 39th United Goans Center tournament kicked off under chilly conditions under the auspices of KIFF and the referring was carried out by IFRA officials. Soccer Kerela was blanked by Kerela challengers in the first match by a margin of three goals. Soccer Kerela started positively and took control of the match in the first half but they were unlucky not to find the back of the net with their inform striker Jinesh. Two long range efforts from Noufal of Kerela challengers in either half allowed Kerela challengers to dominate proceedings in the second half. The keeper was not able to keep out Noufals excellent placed shot on both occasions. Soccer Kerela tried everything but they were not able to break the defence down. As soccer Kerela were all up attacking, Hashim was able to slot in the third goal in injury time to make it 3-0. Kerela challengers will have a break till the winners of AVC and FC Sparx is decided.



In the second match, Rising Stars overcame the strong Skynet Raiders team. After Chelsee was bought down, a thundering free kick from Bernard Pires hit the post and the rebound was slotted in by Silvestre Costa to give them the lead. Skynet tried everything to find the equalizer, but good keeping and great defending helped them to maintain their lead and move on to the next stage of the tourney.


In the last match of the day, football lovers witnessed an epic game between DHL and Indian Strikers. DHL has continued their good run this season. They began with quick pace and Vico had the first chance for DHL, but he sent his header wide of the Indian Strikers post. Cruz made no mistake with his header to give DHL the lead, but Roy of Indian Strikers levelled quickly. In the second half, DHL took the lead again from Cruz Silva and once again Roy equalized for the Indian Strikers. As soon as tempers began to runout of control, the referee had to show a lot of yellow cards to bring the game under control. Both the teams were playing for a win and were giving it their all. The goal scorer Cruz had to leave the pitch after receiving two yellow cards. At the end of full time and extra time the score was two apiece and it had to be decided by penalties. DHL made no mistake with their spot kicks while Indian Strikers could not find the target.
