The grace period for the second and third car and motorbike inspections after three years of purchase has been extended to two years respectively, the Interior Ministry said on Thursday.

The announcement was made in line with a ministerial amendment of the traffic law by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled Al-Sabah aimed to ease the issuance of driving licenses.

Currently, the first inspection is required three years after the purchase of a brand new vehicle, with additional checks, necessary for the issuance of a driving license and motor insurance, needed every year after that.

The amendment now requires motorists to take their vehicles to inspection centres for a second inspection after two years and for a third, two years after that.

The rule, however, does not extend to the fourth inspection which will require motorists to have their vehicles inspected a year following the previous inspection.
