Monday, August 31, 2015

Vistara will start targeting passengers in the Gulf region following the appointment of a new General Sales Agent (GSA).

Sharaf Travels will now represent the Indian carrier in six Gulf countries: the UAE, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

Currently, Vistara does not operate any flight to the Gulf, but it will be aiming to increase its share of passengers from the region who regularly travel to India.

“We recognise that the Gulf countries are among the fastest growing in the world today and are delighted to have established a presence here in less than eight months after we launched domestic services in India,” said Phee Teik Yeoh, CEO of Vistara.

“As pioneers in the travel fraternity, Sharaf Travels will help us provide a personalised and seamless travel experience to our customers from the region.”

At present, Vistara offers 245 weekly flights to 10 destinations in India: Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Goa, Guwahati and Bagdogra. Flights to Bhubaneswar are due to commence on 1 October 2015.

Under existing regulations, Indian airlines must operate domestic routes for five years before they are permitted to expand internationally.
