LuLu Hypermarket, the region’s leading retail chain, inaugurated its much-anticipated Food Fest 2016 on 24 March at its Al Rai outlet. The food festival, which will run until 2 April at all five outlets of the hypermarket, was inaugurated in presence of management, staff and patrons of the hypermarket, by popular Vah-Chef Sanjay Thumma, founder of online cookery site Vahrehvah.com.

Following the inauguration, which saw displays of in-house produced longest basbousa of 75 meters and the longest country bread sandwich of 25 meters, Chef Thumma held a demo of his unique cooking style. Visitors at the event also had the opportunity to participate in ‘WOW-The Masterchef’ cookery contest and exhibit their own cooking skills.

The two-week long festival, which was launched on 19 March and has already witnessed various exciting events, including cookery contests in Italian/Continental cuisine, Arabic cuisine and Thai/Filipino cuisines, promises to be an exciting fortnight of celebrating everything food.

Adding further flavor to the food festival will be several cooking competitions where visitors can try their hand at Indian and Chinese cuisine, as well as in preparing desserts, juices and, even a ‘Taste and Win’ contest. Some of the food records that are also likely to be toppled during the food festival include attempts to create the biggest doughnut cake, the largest chicken biryani, the tallest Arabic sweet and a 50-meter long chicken shwarma.

The festival will come to a close on 2 April with the prize distribution ceremony, which will see winners of the various food festival competitions walk away with fabulous prizes. Food Fest 2016 is part of LuLu Hypermarket’s commitment to engage with their international mix of customers by offering food products from all over the world, while also highlighting the diverse cuisines and foods that allow shoppers to taste and relish fares that are not their own.
