IDAK Conducted Study Club on “Medical Emergencies”

The Indian Dentists Alliance in Kuwait (IDAK) conducted its first Study Club of 2016, on May 13, 2016 at Hotel Radisson Blu, Salwa. The theme of this Study Club was “Management of Medical Emergencies and Medically Compromised Patients in the Dental Practice.” The 4-hour long event was attended by more than 130 dentists and included presentations on this theme by two dental specialists and an anesthetist.

The event started with a lecture by Dr. Sangeetha Scharia on “Management of Medically Compromised Patients in Dentistry.” Dr. Sangeetha detailed the management of patients with cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, hepatic, endocrine, bleeding and neurological disorders, following which Dr. Natesh Kumar T. spoke about “Dental Casualty and its Challenges with the Medically Compromised Patient.” Dr. Natesh updated the audience on management of pain, acute infection, bleeding, trauma and geriatric patients. The third lecture of the evening by Dr. Sridhar K.V. was on “Management of Medical Emergencies in Dental Practice.” In this lecture, Dr. Sridhar explained how to be prepared to handle an emergency, airway management, basic life support maneuvers, common emergencies and their management. This was followed by a Question and Answer session by this panel of speakers. The audience made the best use of the vast experience of the speakers and clarified many of their queries on this topic. The logistics of organizing this event was managed by IDAK Scientific Committee and ably supported by Events Management and Membership Committees. The Chairman of Scientific Committee Dr. Sreekrishnan Nair, announced the plan to organize “IDAK Members Congress” during October 2016. The evening was rounded off with a dinner at the Al Bustan Restaurant in the hotel.
