IES Observes International Yoga Day

June 21st has been declared as the International Yoga day by the United Nations and as per the directives of CBSE, Indian Educational School (Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan), Kuwait celebrated the World Yoga Day 2016 in a unique way on June 19, the last working day of the first term, in the school auditorium. IES has a trained yoga teacher and yoga is offered as an activity by the school to its students under the CCE. Under the aegis of the Department of Physical Education, a session on yoga and other various asanas were conducted for the students and the teachers.



Principal, Mr. T Premkumar welcomed the much enthusiastic gathering and the yoga trainer, Mrs. Madhumita Acharya, a teacher of the primary wing of IES. While welcoming the gathering, Mr. Premkumar talked about the origin of yoga and its acceptance worldwide. He also said that yoga is not just a physical exercise, whereas it is an exercise which strengthens our mental, spiritual and emotional stability.



Addressing the audience, Mrs. Madhumita Acharya told about the benefits and effectiveness of practising yoga. She also performed many yoga asanas, viz. vajrasana, vrikshasana, surya namaskar etc. for the students and the teachers. All the students and the teachers were quite receptive to her instructions, and acted accordingly.

The session concluded after performing shavasana. Mr. Savio Anthony, a teacher from the physical education department assisted the trainer.
