Syro Malabar faithful in Kuwait for indefinite hunger strike over unilateral liturgical revamp

Jyothis Kuwait, an interaction of Syro Malabar believers in Kuwait against the recent unilateral imposition of liturgical restructuring will commence indefinite hunger strike in front of the office of the Major Archbishop at Cochin from 3rd July, Syro Malabar Church day to press their demand to withdraw the step, Jose Joel, Jyothis Chief coordinator informed it in a press release. Jyothis Convener will start the indefinite hunger strike on the day. The movement was formed against the unilateral implementation of the liturgical changes over the format practiced by the Syro Malabar church in Kuwait for the last 28 years. The changed format could not unanimously implement even in Kerala over the years. The present step not only caused split among the believers but confused them too. The strike intends to open the eyes of Syro Malabar bishop synod and the prelates to the grave scenario - Jose Joel added. The decision to stage the protest has been taken in the Jyothis meeting held on 21st June.

Even though the faithful sent many representations to the Syro Malabar church hierarchy, no response was received. It was in such a juncture Jyothis moves for tough stand.

The Protest will be planned to coordinate widely all over Gulf countries in the coming days with the involvement and participation of Syro Malabar community in Gulf countries.
