What has happened to this world? Smoke here and dump them there. You would be surprised to know that an average male smoker goes through 14 cigarettes a day, that is almost 5200 cigarettes a year which clears out a whole lot of money out of an adult’s annual savings !But has this thought ever arisen to them that “Will it affect me in any way”? Well, in extreme cases the person might even kick the bucket.

Tobacco use is a global epidemic, and the problem is getting worse quickly as the tobacco industry tears down societies. Here are some surprising facts

We all know that tobacco causes cancer, but do you know how much? It not only causes lung cancer but also esophagus, larynx (voice box), mouth, throat, kidney, bladder, liver, pancreas, stomach, cervix, colon, and rectum, as well as acute myeloid leukemia. You might not know half the time what all of them mean, but giving a little bit of effort to read about it is not bad, but knowing that smoking is a close friend of cancer is itself a bad news, but the good news is there are ways to quit smoking as well.

1:-The hard way.
If you are a person who is very determined to give up tobacco and is ready to do it the hard way, then this is for you. The method is not appealing, but trust me, this might work. It is to stop smoking on the same day that you decide to. Some people complain that this gives them a bad headache and for those people, give up smoking gradually i. e from 14 cigarettes a day to 12,then to 10 and to 8 and to 6 and so on till you get to 0.

2:-Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT)
Discuss with your doctor about nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) to deal with the addiction. The nicotine nasal spray and the nicotine inhaler are available in your nearest drug store prescribed by your doctor, there are also however medications for it which will be discussed in the next method. It is not at all painful and a very quiet and easy way to quit the bad habit.

3:-Tablets and patches.
Ok! Enough! Let’s go old school, what not better than tablets and medicines? It has helped a lot of people to give up smoking. Using a Nicotine patch while smoking might lead to a Nicotine overdose, but a literature review found concurrent use of a nicotine patch and cigarette smoking appears to be safe. The use of this patch is definitely going to gradually reduce the number of intake of cigarettes a day.

4:-Chew the gum.
The title says it all. There is a special kind of gum that helps you give up smoking when you chew the gum for a specific no. of days at the right amount. If you are a chewing gum lover, this is a pleasant surprise and for others who think that the other methods are tough, then this surprise means nothing less to the others compared to the people who love chewing gum.

Keep in mind that, in all the attempts, don’t give up trying. It does not matter how many times you go back, but maybe we might actually succeed in quitting after some time. Go to places that have “don’t smoke” policies and test yourself how long you can hold back from smoking, and think every time before you smoke that you are quitting not only for you but for your loved ones as well.
