North Kanara Association - Kuwait Celebrated "Christmas Cheer 2016"

Monday, December 26, 2016

The dawn of Friday, 16th December 2016, was a special day for the members of North Kanara Association – Kuwait, as yet again, they unitedly readied themselves to celebrate with gusto, the final event of the year, ‘CHRISTMAS CHEER 2016’, at the Royal Terrasse Restaurant, Salmiya.

As is the tradition of the Association to begin every event with a prayer, Ms. Quittoria Noronha, Asst. PR Officer, sought blessings from above. The members of the Executive and Advisory Board joined hands and lit the Christmas candle, to usher in the joy and peace of the season and express solidarity.

Being led by a team leader, John Fernandes, who always works behind the scenes, for the betterment of the Association, followed by the vivacious Executive Committee and ever supporting members of the Association, there is no looking back for an Association which has undertaken various charitable works, over the years, since its inception in 2011.

The President delivered a short and meaningful welcome speech, in which he acknowledged the support of not only the members from North Kanara but also from other communities outside the region. The highlight of the day was the Fancy Dress competition which regaled the children, an idea conceived by the talented Marita Miranda, Asst. Event Coordinator and the General Secretary of the Association Asha Alphonso.

With almost 125 guests at the event, Kuwait’s top DJ Cheslee D’Souza mesmerized the crowd with his foot tapping music. The competent and beautiful Emcee for the day Ms. Jenny D’Souza engaged the crowd with her wit and humour.

Victor Almeida, dressed as Santa Claus, enthralled the young and old, and turned out to be a perfect partner for some fun pictures. He rained chocolates throughout the hall and distributed goody bags to the children, much to their delight!

Spot prizes were given away throughout the event. It was ‘prizes galore’, for the lucky winners of the various games conducted for Children and Adults and the Novelty dance as the evening progressed. Executive Members Clifford Miranda, who worked very hard behind scenes and Gaspar Rodrigues who put together an attractive Christmas Hamper have contributed immensely towards this event. Cleavon Miranda has done an excellent job clicking pictures of the entire event.

Kris Rodrigues led everyone in prayer, to thank God for the sumptuous buffet and reminded everyone to be thoughtful and reach out to our less fortunate brothers and sisters. The vote of thanks delivered by Marita Miranda who pointed out that each member deserved a pat on the back for his or her contribution towards the success of the event. She expressed her gratitude, on behalf the Association, to all philanthropists for their contribution to a charitable cause.

It was a pleasure to see members who are working here in Kuwait, away from their family and home town, dance to their heart’s content. Simon Nazareth and Francis Fernandes were honored with medals for going out of their way and supporting the cause of the event.

The Guest of Honor Mr. Ayoob Kachery, Regional Director of Grand Hyper was welcomed with warm and grateful hearts for his continuous support and contribution to the Association. Grace Fernandes, Joint General Secretary presented him with a bouquet of flowers.

Our valued Sponsors of the event were Mr. Ayoob Kachery, Regional Director or Grand Hyper, Ms. Irene Saldanha, Manager of the Royal Terrasse Restaurant, Seedawi Company, Bahrain Exchange Company, Mr. Leslie Fernandes, Al Othman & Al Bisher Trdg. Co., Mohamed Naser Al Sayer & Sons.
