Kuwait Fire Service Directorate (KFSD) on Thursday urged citizens and expatriates to take precautions against possible fires during the summer peak.

Colonel Khalil Al-Amir, Director of Public Relations and Information at the department, said in a statement that fire rates have been mounting since start of the fasting month Ramadan due to continuous usage of air-conditioning sets and greater consumption of electricity. He urged the nationals and residents to set the air-conditioning heat degree at 25 for rationalizing electrical consumption and minimizing chances of fire eruption. He also warned of using defective electrical appliances.

Col. Al-Amir called for regular check-up of gas cylinders' hoses and denied claims that filling the car tank full may cause a blast due to the high heat. Moreover, he advised motorists to conduct regular check-up of their cars' tires and abstain from keeping flammable materials in their vehicles and cars.
