Dramatic drop in traffic violations

New traffic regulations have helped reduce the number of no-parking violations from an average of 4,000 a day to 150, the Interior Ministry’s General Traffic Department said yesterday.

Traffic police started two weeks ago to impound for two months a vehicle whose driver parks in no parking zones, is caught driving while using a mobile phone, in case the driver or passenger are not fastening the seatbelt while the car is moving, or in case a motorcyclist is caught driving without wearing a helmet.

These new measures have helped dramatically drop the number of violations committed by motorists, Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs Major General Fahad Al-Shuwayie said
