7.3 magnitude earthquake strikes close to Iraq-Iran border; 4-5 magnitude aftersock jolts Kuwait

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 has struck Iraq, about 64 miles (103km) southeast of the city of As-Sulaymaniyah, near to the Iraq-Iran border, the US Geological Survey has said.

It initially said the quake was of a magnitude 7.2, before revising it to 7.3.

Meanwhile An aftershock measuring between 4-5 degrees on richter scale hit Kuwait on Sunday as a result of a 7.5 magnitude earthquake that struck Iran-Iraq borders, Kuwait National Seismic Network said.

The earthquake epicenter was 200 kilometers northeast of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, KNSN said in a statement to KUNA.
