Sports Do Not Build Character They Reveal It

The 19th CBSE Cluster Athletic Meet was organized by Indian Educational School, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kuwait under the leadership of the convener of the Kuwait Chapter Mr. T Premkumar supported by the Principals of ICSK, Dr. Binumon, Integrated Indian School, Mr. Arul Thomas, India International School, Mr. F. M Basheer, Al Amal Indian School, Mr. Baldwin, Kuwait Indian School, Mrs. Leena Mathew and Jabriya Indian School Dr. Achuthan Madhavan. Principal of Learner’s Own Academy, Mrs. Asha Sharma and Principal of Carmel School, Sr. Benedicta Pinto and Principal of Smart Indian School, Mr. Mahesh Iyer graced the occasion.

The inaugural and valedictory functions of the four-day event were organized in all pomp and glory by the Principal of Integrated Indian School, Mr. Arul Thomas. Floral bouquets of welcome were presented to the Chief Guest Dr. Binumon, Principal, Indian Community School, Kuwait and the Guest of Honor Mr. T. Premkumar, Indian Educational School, Kuwait by the students of Integrated Indian School, Abbassiya. The Kuwait chapter flag was then hoisted by Dr. Binumon. The ensuing ceremonial displayed elegant march past led by the BSS cadets of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in colourful rhythmic beat followed by the Champion school of 2016-17, Indian Community School, Kuwait.

Chief Guest of the day Dr. Binumon, took the reverential salute. R. Dharshan Kumar of grade 11 student of Indian Central school who is an outstanding sports man administered the oath to 577 athletes from 15 Indian Schools in Kuwait. Chief Guest Dr. Binumon while addressing the gathering stressed on the importance of sports and sportsman spirit. Addressing the students, he said, “Be proud of the fact that you have been chosen to represent your school. In your endeavor to be a winner cultivate sportsmanship and balance sports and academics.”

Guest of Honor, Convener of the Kuwait Chapter, Mr. T Premkumar thanked the vibrant athletes for their presence. He stressed on the importance of sports and how it can shape the personality of an individual. He congratulated the students for being standouts from the rest of the students at school. He exhorted the athletes to compete with true sportsman spirit and excel by performing better than the previous years. He expressed his gratitude to all the principals of the Kuwait Chapter for their unstinting support and all the physical education teachers for their active role in arranging a colourful inaugural function.

Breaking the Record
The release of pigeons symbolizing resilience, perception and devotion in sports marked the declaration of the athletic meet open. The four-day event saw the agile athletes fight tooth and nail in 66 events. “Sports do not build character, they reveal it.” True to the adage the event stood testimony to revealing the character of the fierce athletes brimming with vigor and intensity which ushered in victory creating new records in track and field events all by the students of ICSK in U- 17 boys discus throw, U-17 boys 4 X 100 m relay, U-19 boys 4 X 100 m relay, and U-14 Girls 4 x 100m relay.

Winners Win Again
The Overall Championship was won for the 16th time by the Indian Community School with an incredible lead score of 396 points. In the lively and exciting closing ceremony, the winners regaled themselves with the applause of acknowledgement, and the euphoria of victory and sportsmanship as the Convener of the Kuwait Chapter Mr. T. Premkumar announced the results. Premkumar wished all the athletes who will be taking part in the National CBSE Athletic Meet which will be held soon at Allons Public School – Chhattisgarh.

The Principal of ICSK, Mr. Rajesh Nair joined the Principals of the organizing schools to grace the closing ceremony. Mr. Murugaiayan, HOD Physical Education department of Indian educational school who was the architect of the cluster meet thanked all the PETs for their support in making the event a grand success, and wished all the athletes the very best at the nationals. The ace athletes and winners-to-be set their eyes on the tracks once again, and as the spectators moved off, everyone relished the memoirs of the well planned and coordinated CBSE Cluster Athletic Meet held in Kuwait.
