Blood Donors Kerala, Kuwait Chapter Conducted an emergency Blood Drive exclusively for the Negative Group Blood Donors in response to a request from Kuwait Central Blood bank at Blood Bank, Jabriya, on Wednesday, 06 December 2017. Many donors responded to the call and attended the drive even though it was on a normal working day. Appreciate all our donors for their selfless service and dedication to the noble cause. A delegation from Kuwait Pakistan Blood Donors team also visited the camp. It was a great sign of cooperation between these two organizations irrespective of any barriers.

Earlier this month, Blood Donors Kerala Kuwait Chapter have managed to bring a Bombay Blood group, donor from Qatar for a delivery case patient in Adan Hospital, Kuwait. Nidheesh Raghunath, a Keralite who works at Barwa, Qatar turned a life saver for a woman in Kuwait when he was identified as a potential donor of the blood type known as Bombay group. This very rare phenotype is generally present in about 0.0004% (about 4 per million) of the human population, though in some places such as Mumbai (formerly Bombay), more frequent occurrences are reported.

The woman from Karnataka had to undergo an urgent C-section which was delayed by the non-availability of a donor with the same blood group which occurs only in four out of every million people.

Blood Donors Kerala’s Kuwait chapter was informed about the medical crisis. A social media search for a suitable donor reached the office-bearers of the Blood Donors Kerala-Qatar chapter, which could pick Nidheesh Raghunath from their database. The young man was taken to a hospital for cross-matching of the blood samples.

The BDK-Kuwait chapter sought permission from Ministry of Health, Kuwait to mobilize the donor from Qatar. The Central Blood Bank Administration, provided all the necessary assistance and support in this mission.

The youngster who hailed from Iritti near Kannur, Kerala has turned a hero among the expatriates in Middle East. This mission has brought Blood Donors Kerala to a new level in their efforts in promoting the Voluntary Blood Donation in Kuwait as well as other regions.

BDK Kuwait extent their sincere thanks to KCCB, Kuwait for giving us an opportunity to conduct a Blood Drive as part of our ongoing campaign.

Those who wish to join the voluntary Blood Donation group may whatsapp their name and blood group to 6501 2380 / 515 10076.
