Traffic Department completed study on toughening penalties

The General Traffic Department has completed a study for toughening penalties on grave traffic violations, local media AlShahed daily reported.

According to report, the study shall be submitted to Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior Lt General Mahmoud Al-Dosari and then to the Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah, the Cabinet and to the National Assembly for approval.

The study suggests KD 100 fine for jumping the red traffic light and parking vehicles in places allocated for the disabled.

Once approved, reckless motorists shall be fined, imprisoned or referred to the court. Those who exceed speed limit, especially above 180 kms shall be fined and imprisoned. Fines will also increase for other traffic violations, mainly using the cell phone while driving.
