Indian Minister M J Akbar to attend Iraq reconstruction conference in Kuwait

India's Minister of State for External Affairs Sri M J Akbar will represent India at the Iraq reconstruction conference, which will be held in Kuwait on February 12-14.

The Kuwait International Conference of Iraq Reconstruction and Development is hosted by the State of Kuwait to attract billions of dollars from private investors as well as donors to fund Iraq's reconstruction. Iraq shall present the feasibility studies and licenses for 60 key investment projects with total amount exceeds $ 85 billion. The WB will support such projects by offering guarantees, compensation of first loss, and markets exploration. This conference would be the first of its kind to be supported by the WB and targeting investments.

Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Sri M J Akbar will arrive Kuwiat on 13th of this month to attend teh conference, soruces informed.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi last month declared victory in the war against the militants, who controlled as much as a third of Iraq’s territory three years ago. Iraq needs at least $100 billion in assistance to rebuild homes, businesses and infrastructure including oil and telecommunications facilities, KUNA quoted Allaq as saying.
