Indian engineering multinational Larsen & Toubro announced on Monday that its construction business has been awarded a large contract for substations in Kuwait.

The power transmission and distribution business of L&T Construction secured a engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for constructing 22 132/11kV substations in Kuwait, the company said in a press statement.

It said Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity & Water is the consultant for the project.

The statement didn't disclose the value of the contract but said it formed part of local and international EPC orders worth 1,881 crores of Indian rupees ($254.7 million).

"Thanks to such substation networks, the large housing projects being developed by the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) at South Al Mutala and South Abdullah Al-Mubarak cities will receive reliable power supply," the press statement said.

The statement also said additional orders were received from ongoing transmission line project in Egypt.

In August, the company announced that it bagged an order from Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company for the construction of a 220kV overhead transmission line from Toshka in Egypt as part of the Egypt-Sudan electricity interconnection project.
