Indian Embassy today issued an updated circular to their passport service outsourcing centres not to ask for Civil ID copy of friends or relatives while submitting an application for new or renewal of passports. However the circular states that any identification proof of two friends or relatives is mandatory.

According to the fresh circular, the applicant must attach a copy of the passport or any Indian identification document (Election Card, Aadhaar Card, Driving License, etc.) of two friends or relatives along with the application form for renewal or fresh issue of a passport.

Last week Embassy had made it mandatory that any application for new or renewal of passport must attach the civil ID copy of two references either a friend or relative. The updated circular was issued today (Tuesday) after large number of people expressed their difficulties in submitting the civil id copy of friends.

However, as per the updated circular, copy of any of the above mentioned documents is mandatory.
