United Nations Simulation Conference held at Bhavans

D.R.Pratyusha Thursday, March 6, 2014

The first United Nations Simulation Conference (UNSC) to be conducted by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kuwait was held on 6th February 2014. It sure was a wonderful sight to see young and bright students, then as delegates to discuss global issues with such fervor and enthusiasm.

The day began with the students of class VI conducting the General Assembly meeting in the school auditorium. The Secretary General of the U.N.O (United Nations Organization) was Aaliya while Prapthi was the President of the council.

The delegates of various countries participated and presented a speech on various political, economical, social and environmental issues. They then discussed their countries' future course of action.

This was followed by a speech by Malala Yusufzai (Kiara, Grade 6).

The Secretary General concluded the meeting by offering a few suggestions and solutions for the various issues mentioned above.

Then at around 10.30, the Security Council was called to order, with D.R.Pratyusha as the Secretary General, Srividya as the President and Sharath Ganesh as the Vice President of the council.

The meeting began with the topic- "Central African Republic Turmoil" being opened as the subject for discussion.

After all the delegates rendered their speeches, a heated moderated caucus took place where the delegates of various countries spoke about the problem and its possible solutions.

Just when the council was going to move on to the draft resolutions, the Secretary General entered with an 'Emergency Crisis', giving the delegates a chance to showcase their 'on the spot abilities', to solve issues. The council moved on to the moderated caucus (discussion on a topic) on the emergency, which was followed by the making of the 'Draft Resolution'. The delegates had to write down both short term and long term steps to be taken to respond to the crisis.

The head of the Social Studies department, Mrs. Meenakshi Nayyar proposed the Vote of Thanks and appreciated the participants for making this event a grand success.

The United Nations Simulation Conference, apart from giving students an insight into how the UN works, helps students and viewers to realize their duties towards the world and become ideal global citizens, sensitive to the needs of different people, countries and the world at large. I would like to thank the school management for having proposed this idea and allowing the team to carry it forward.
