Stop Sustaining on Junk Food!

May it be for a change of taste or forced by a tight schedule we always rely on junk food as a fast and tasty means of filling our stomachs. However, we are putting ourselves into more harm than we can ever imagine.

Today, junk food businesses are dominating the food industry to a great extent, with each huge food chain generating multibillion-dollar revenue, creating thousands of employment opportunities and influencing diet globally. But all this comes at the cost of health and well-being of millions of consumers. The consequences that junk food can have on your health are terrible, regardless of whether you have them once in a while, twice in a week or every day. Some of them are listed below:

Atherosclerosis and other Heart diseases

Fast foods contain high amounts of cholesterol and salt, two nutrients that contribute to cardiovascular health problems. Also, people who eat fast food four or more times a week, up their risk of dying from heart disease by 80 percent. Fast foods create a much higher risk of heart disease because of the high level of saturated or trans fats found in much of the food. Those fats can clog the arteries and, over time, contribute to high cholesterol levels.

Diabetes

Many drive-through foods and drinks have high sugar content. Regularly consuming too much sugar can have permanent negative effects on your blood sugar levels.

Obesity

Fast foods are loaded with fat and calories. Ordering without restraint will have negative effects on your weight as you routinely take in more calories than you can expend. Obesity increases the risk for potentially fatal heart disease, arthritis, diabetes and some cancers, as well as sleep apnea and asthma.

Loss of Appetite

Normal food contains appetizers, which are not present (substantially) in fast food. Continuous use of fast food may cause loss appetite, abnormal digestion and sometime food poisoning. Fast food does not satisfy all needs of stomach.

Lack of Essential Nutrients

A well-balanced food contains all essential elements that are necessary for human development, while fast food does not fulfill all needs of body and sometime causes disorder.

Stress

Foods rich in fat can increase one's stress level and make one at a greater level of stress in comparison to those who have a low fat meal. Moreover, certain foods and drinks, especially those containing caffeine, white flour, etc. act as powerful stimulants to the body and hence are a direct cause of stress.

Fast food costs relatively little and tastes good, but its negative effects on physical health last much longer than these immediate concerns. Please resist the temptation to grab a hamburger and instead have a nice square meal at home!
