Kuwait based Keralites voice protest against NRIs hardship back home in Kerala

Days after the suicide of NRI businessman Sajan Parayil, who was reportedly refused a license to open his Auditorium in Kerala's Kannur district, Kuwait based group of Keralites gathered together to show their solidarity to their fellow NRI in Kuwait who is facing similar experience back home in Kerala.

A Community meeting was held at Abbasiya where representatives of several Kerala based associations and community leaders formed a committee with the aim to help the returning NRIs to overcome the worst situations in the entrepreneurial life and to deal with such issues back home in Kerala by putting pressure on Kerala Government.

Few weeks back, an NRI investor committed suicide in Kerala's Kannur district as the authorities denied permission for his business unit, allegedly by the local political leaders pressure. A similar incident was reported by a Kuwait based NRI Reji Bhasker, who took loan of around 45 lakhs and invested along with his savings to setup a service station at his home town with a hope of settling back to Kerala. However for the past one year, the work is halted by some of the local political leaders citing various reasons even though he got all the necessary approvals and permissions from the governmental bodies.

In the community meeting, Reji Bhasker said that he started the project and invested his savings only after getting all the necessary permissions and approvals required for the project. However within a few days, local leaders of political party came against the project and halted the work. His complaint to the local police station also goes in vain as the police are not ready to take any action against the local leaders, Reji said.

Many association representatives expressed their solidarity with Reji Bhasker and opined that the government should come forward to solve such issues faced by the NRIs.

Yes! It is a problem in my home state of West Bengal. Dadagiri and money extortion is rampant in every aspect of life. Local goons will pounce on you if you are trying to sell your own land/property etc.
I did not know that things are so bad in Kerala as well.

Wonder how things are in other parts of India, especially in States like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Punjab. If any reader has any feedback, it would be appreciated.

This is an excellent take by Kuwait Indians.

Local dadagiri and political clout is showing up everywhere nowadays including in India''s peaceful State of Goa. It is like turning to hell to get things done.

Government should provide some kind of support for NRIs, hope our Embassy will come up with some idea or scheme.

The real fact is thet the Government is not supporting NRI business in Kerala. Please advice the world that no one should invest in Kerala. It will become a big wastage of the effort and hard earned money.
