SIMS Organised Mega Sports Day-2019

Salmiya Indian Model School’s much awaited Sports Day event was held at the Kaifan stadium on 28th of November, 2019 in a zealous and frolicsome atmosphere as the venue bustled with various activities all day long. Sports Day offers the important reminder that while “Yes”, there will always be winners and you might not be one of them, it’s participation that counts all.

The events were contested with great competitive spirit as the students got a chance to compete in athletic events to earn points for their respective houses. The day began with invoking the blessings of the Almighty with the recital of the Holy Quran and a melodious prayer song by the school choir. This was followed by the Kuwait National Anthem. The privileged presence of His Excellency Abdullah Mohammad Odowa the Ambassador of Somalia graced the event as the Chief Guest. The other dignitaries present were the SIMS owner Dr. SheikhaMymoona Al Sabah, herrRepresentative Mr. Ahmad Dashti, Dr. Anis Ahmad and Ms. Anita Sadanand. Both guests and the parents were accorded a warm welcome by Dr. Anis Ahmad. He insisted on upholding the spirit of sportsmanship as a key to success.

The audience bore witness to the prestigious flag hoisting ceremony as the dignitaries hoisted three flags together-the Kuwait National flag, the National flag and the esteemed SIMS flag. This was followed by the well synchronized and crisp march past by the senior students. The student council and the respective house captains led the student cohort with grace, confidence and pride. Traditional athletic ceremonies like lighting the torch and oath taking ceremony, dictated by the sports captain Yunus Nasser added to the fervor and enthusiasm of the participants and the audience. The Chief guest His Excellency the Ambassador of Somalia declared the sports meet open with flying balloons and words of encouragement.

The students and the audience entered into the spirit of the occasion as the students from grade 1 to 12 took part in number of races like little red riding hood race, shuttle fun race and obstacle race for the primary section while the core athletic events included many 100 meter races and a mixed relay of 4x100 meters for the senior students .

Another allurement of the day included the colorful drills presented by the students of classes1 to 6 and the awe inspiring and mesmerizing drill by the tiny tots of the Kindergarten section. The drills presented by the students displayed various themes of being fit and healthy. The students looked vibrant and vivacious in their frilly costumes and interesting props. The audience got a chance to witness various dance forms like Zumba and Bhangra amalgamated with complex and impressive drill forms.

The parents and teachers felt rejuvenated after participation in the sack race and lemon and spoon race. This was followed by the final prize distribution ceremony where the winners were felicitated with medals and trophies. The winners of the CBSE Cluster Athletic Meet were also awarded with medals and certificates for their outstanding performances. The overall house championship was won by the Sapphire House.

The Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Shyam Head of the Physical Education Department of SIMS, where he expressed his gratitude towards impressive participants and enthusiastic parents.

The sports Day, 2019 was the embodiment of philosophy practiced by Salmiya Indian Model School that emphasizes excellence in sports as a major part of holistic development in students.
