Inception

‘What is the most resilient parasite? An idea. Resilient, highly contagious. Once an idea has taken hold of the brain it is almost impossible to eradicate.’

And while I was sitting with my bowl of popcorn and watching inception this thought suddenly came to me…Inception, we all watched that movie and wowed at the exceptional special effects and intriguing, perplexing story line, but did anyone think about whether the idea of inception was in truth fictional or not. I thought about it and there seems to be more truth to it. Yes my friends each one of you reading this article has probably had inception done on you at some point in your life, probably much more than once. Some of you may now say I’m crazy, and the more paranoid of you may even go to the extent of saying that I secretly work for a team of dream extractors, but think about it for a second… Inception… planting ideas into the heads of people while they believe they are part of another world… isn’t that exactly what movies do all the time.

‘This marks the last day of the United States of America. And, by tomorrow, all of mankind. And we will be visible from the Milky Way as a tiny little puff of smoke. I'm watching the earth crumble before my eyes!’

Tell me my friends after hearing these lines and sitting through 120 minutes of tsunamis, 10.8 Richter earthquakes, and out of whack volcanoes in the movie 2012, how many of you who never previously ever even so much as thought about the possibility of an apocalypse in 2012 went online, googled and read about the Mayan prophecy? For a minute you thought - Could it be true? Is it all going to end? Did that little disclaimer about the movie being fictional prevent you from thinking it might be true… And I’m sure you found other debates between people who feared the same. Fear, a powerful emotion isn’t it? Fear can cause anything from mere immediately harmless internet debates to major protests and demonstrations that potentially injure or even kill people. Okay, the fear and the idea that the world was seeing its last was initially incepted into people’s heads but later shot down as fictional paranoia... But, what about when the fear stays on… What do you think happens then?

The inconvenient truth is, my friends, that if a movie about how the world is going to crack open like an eggshell on a specific prophesied date isn’t going to keep the fear on for long, surely a movie about how the world is going to eventually suffer a painful death from increasing temperatures is. This movie by Al Gore, for the first time brought worldwide attention to the problem of climate change, and opened the eyes of the world to the truth that it’s our selfish, exploitative behavior that is characteristic of our race, that put the gears in place for this “slow death’ in the first place. The idea was phenomenal, novel, many thought it is probably some political scam again, and then the debates started, the supporters of the idea of global warming won, and then what? Realization…people realized that the pale blue dot… everything that has ever happened in all of human history has happened on that pixel…It's our only home. And that is what is at stake: our ability to live on planet Earth. Then… people started taking active action to impede and stop the process before it was too late. Various organizations came up, awareness started spreading about the degrading situation and the world began to make small changes to reduce the overall impact of the problem. All because of that parasite of an idea…

How many of you have watched Harry get under that famous fictional invisibility cloak and dreamed of the day that you might be the proud inventor of one. Well that has been among my to do list in life and sadly I had to scratch it off the list last week when I read that scientists in Japan have succeeded in making a prototype that actually works, although not as effectively… yet. It is claimed that within 6 months it would be viable to produce a cloak quite like Harry Potter’s. Who knows, years down the line you might find yourself in the store faced with the mind-racking decision of whether to purchase iInvisibility or InvisibleAndroid. In fact, the fancy gadgets that most of you own today like tablets, wireless headsets, mobile storage devices etc. were all first portrayed in the movie star trek, as novelties, ideas that were fantastic and incredible. I suggest we all start saving up for that invisibility cloak.

Hmm…What if people began owning invisibility cloaks? We’d have crime rates shooting up and what’s worse? Security cameras wouldn’t even know who did it… In fact, quite a few criminals have gotten their ideas from movies. From ruthless men who cannibalistically devour the flesh of lost men with fava beans and some chianti to gruesome murders mimicking the saw series, there have been dozens of crimes committed that have been inspired by popular thrillers and horror movies. To the extent that there have been cases in which the criminals in question have even “seen” movie characters come to them and ask them to commit the crime.

Okay now, I’m not trying to scare you guys alright. I’m not trying to say that watching the next hottest crime thriller is going to slowly turn you into a psychopathic serial killer or that watching more Al Gore is going to make you the savior of the planet. All I’m trying to convey is that movies have the power to subconsciously get you thinking about something that has the potential to inspire you one way or another. Even if they don’t inspire you to start a major environmental movement or become your local super hero, simple things like even lines spoken by the hero could ring in your head at just the right time and motivate you. Just last week, I was swimming laps in the pool. Lap 1… Lap2 (tired)… Lap 3 (really tired)…. Halfway through lap 3 it felt like the water was overpowering me, like I was just too tired to go on. Right then, this played at the back of my head… Just keep swimming, Just keep swimming, just keeping swimming swimming swimming… and just like that little Dory motivated me to keep swimming and finish my lap.

If today you feel like things in life, people around you maybe, are pulling you down, Christopher Gardner is here to tell you to keep on the ‘Pursuit of Happyness’.“You got a dream… you gotta protect it. If people can’t do something themselves, they wanna tell you, you can’t do it. If you want something go and GET IT”. If it’s the day of that big game and it’s the one day you are asking for a ‘Miracle’, Coach Brookes is here to tell your team “Great moments... are born from great opportunity. And that's what you have here, tonight, boys. That's what you've earned here tonight. One game. This is your time. Go out and take it”.

When things seem hard, don’t worry a spoon full of sugar will help the medicine go down. Never let go of a chance to experience something new, because life isn’t measured by the breaths you take but by the moments that take your breath away. Always stay on that yellow brick road that will take you to your dreams even if they lie somewhere over the rainbow. And always remember that white bearded wizard’s saying “Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light”

Very good article keep it up. Truely inspiration comes from inception of an idea. What you see & feel will definitely effect your mind & the idea good or bad will be stored & reflect with time & circumstances. Its in our hand to decide the right & wrong & follow the theme of the story.
