“A room without books is like a body without a soul.”

Books are of different types, different titles, written by different authors, on different subjects and for different ages. Whatsoever, it is one of the things that has been and will always be revered! Books are in fact one of the most valuable possessions a person can have! As our children today prefer googling rather than reading, we have come across this special day called “My favourite Book Day!” We have this day observed right from Kindergarten because we intend to instill this value in our children from a very young age.

The Kindergarten section of Bhavans IES and Jack and Jill nursery observed this day on the 10th of September. The parents were sent a circular to prepare their wards to speak about their favourite book in 3 or 6 sentences preferably. The children had to narrate the outline of the story focusing on the main characters in the story, making it sound interesting to the other students and thus encouraging each other. It was mandatory for every child to participate in it. Reading develops a child’s communication skills and stimulates the thought processes in the child’s brain. Reading also improves the vocabulary in children and they will thus make language a tool to express their thoughts and feelings. It was rather interesting to watch the little ones tuck their favourite book under their arm the whole day as it is indeed his/her valued possession. What more could we expect for!

Let us strive for a future generation reading books in their pastime rather than whiling away their time unproductively because “there are perhaps no days of our childhood we lived so fully as those we spent with a favourite book.”
