Ramadan: The Night of Power

Ramadan or Ramazan as sometimes told in other languages is the ninth holy month according to the Islamic calendar. It is often told that is was on this day that Allah revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) the Quran (Holy book of Islam)

which is a guide book for all the Muslims on how to lead a good life. This holy month to the Muslims is a time of worship and contemplation . Muslims believe that God will forgive their past sins if they observe the Ramadan period faithfully with prayer and fasting . Muslims are prohibited from speaking or even thinking about bad things. After sunset Muslims break their fast with an Iftar (a meal) usually eaten together by relatives and friends. It is usually started with the eating of dates, apricots or sweetened milk and then the feast. After finishing up with a prayer Muslims have to go through again an entire day before they can eat and is continued until the Ramadan period is over. But faithfully praying like this helps Muslims to be forgiven for their sins .After a month of fasting , the Eid al- Fitr is celebrated to mark the end of the fasting season. During this everyone dresses up in new clothes, cakes and pastries are baked, gifts are exchanged, relatives and friends join together for meals etc. Ramadan is a month of gaining Allah’s will and happiness and with this I would like to wish all my Muslim friends a very happy Ramadan Kareem.
